BLURB
A vampire who hates his own kind and would gladly betray them... but turned his back on the human rebels he was working with when given a chance to have power and wealth beyond his wildest imagination. No regrets(?), even though he's pretty sure he's in over his head now.

PERSONALITY
bullet points for now because i'm trying to keep this short oh god
Malice - as his self-chosen name suggests - is incredibly spiteful. He holds grudges forever and can't stand people who have wronged him. He's quick to paint everyone with the same brush immediately - the world's black and white as far as he's concerned. Sure, there are some good vampires and some shitty humans, but humans are overall way better than vampires and that's all that matters.

Despite his hatred for his own kind, Malice doesn't hate himself at all. He's the only valid vampire, and he blatantly ignores his own hypocrisy when he feeds on humans and kills them just as ruthlessly.

That's kind of a running theme with him, honestly - he doesn't give a shit about people being overall awful in general, he just cares about who has wronged him.

Malice is ultimately Chaotic Evil - he doesn't have much of a reason to help others, but isn't exactly opposed to it. The moment he has the opportunity to benefit himself, however, that outweighs everything else.

He's deeply selfish and materialistic - part of this is because he's never really been able to own stuff, but part of this is that he's just a hoarder. He tends to keep things just in case he needs them, and he's terribly messy on top of all of that.

Usually, Malice is very laidback and upbeat. He's cheerful and bright, and is almost always smiling. He doesn't really do anger, but he definitely does manic staring and he never blinks enough. He also aggressively makes eye contact at all times. He's way more likely to start laughing madly than he is to actually get furious.

With that said, he does get mad and he expresses that by... well, laughing madly, really. He's a deeply manic sort of crazy. When he does do anger, it's always cold - if he's actually quiet and restrained then you know there's a problem.

Malice likes to be entertained by people - he's blunt and won't hesitate to escape a conversation if it's boring. He wants to be around bright people, whether that's cheerful or just a fierce presence of personality doesn't matter. He likes passionate people and those who embody what he loves most about humanity - their willingness to fight and change things, regardless of how the odds are stacked against them.

He really doesn't know how to be polite or gentle, so even his teasing is usually mean. Though he's lived around humans all his life, he still tends to talk down to them. He's accidentally condescending as opposed to intentionally so; he really does love humans, but like they're an exotic pet.

Malice is also super shallow. He likes to look his best at all times, and his aesthetic is "edgy". He never grew out of his edgy teen phase.

He really doesn't like being told what to do. By anyone. Ever. Bossing him around is the quickest way to end up on his shit list - unless you've got some reason for it, anyway.

Malice loves fighting. Throw down with him anytime, anywhere and he'll be fond of you. Sparring isn't as fun as a real fight, but at least it's something.

He's cautious to the point of paranoia, but absolutely greedy enough to let his guard down if he feels like the risk is worth it. He's a bit of an adrenaline junkie in general, so his idea of "caution" is definitely not the same as everyone else's.

HISTORY
bullet points for now because i'm trying to keep this short oh god
Malice doesn't have very many memories of his youth. He vaguely recalls being taken in by someone and raised by them, but that's the most he's got before the age of ten or so.

(He was left in the slums when he was a baby and taken in by a human woman who raised him. She gave him a different name and cared for him for those ten years or so.)

A band of vampires going by the name "The Forgotten" took him in after that. While he has no memory of the name of the leader, he was the one who taught Malice how to be a vampire and how to fight and defend himself. He wasn't ever really a full-fledged member of the group since he was a kid, but they treated him well enough.

Until all of the members vanished one day, that is. Malice returned from hunting and they were all gone, with no trace of where they'd gone. He internalized being left behind really poorly and tried to get stronger to prove himself - and to prove he didn't need anyone to help him.

He had several run-ins with other vampires and humans alike, resulting in a lot of injuries that he mostly healed from. One incident broke his right arm so badly that his regeneration couldn't properly heal it; he had to have his arm amputated after that. Malice's left eye has been missing for as long as he can remember and he only has vague memories of exactly what happened to his arm. While he was out there fighting for his own survival he took the name "Malice" because he's an edgelord.

One human he tried to feed on was able to fend him off easily; that strength was fascinating and Malice ended up following the human around until they actually started talking. The human was Cody, who just so happened to be the leader of the human rebels in the area. He invited Malice to join them, and he did.

The other humans were understandably a bit on edge about Malice's presence here, but over time they slowly started to accept him. He was never really a proper member of the rebellion, just someone they could rely on to get some dirty work done. Cody trusted him though, and spent a lot of time vouching for him and trying to get others to trust Malice as well. It never really worked out, but things were fine. Though they never really gained any tremendous advantages against the vampire lords in the area, working with them was rewarding.

Until Malice got captured, that is. He was taken before the vampire lord leading things in the area, a woman named Rosalie of Annihilation Eclipse. Malice figured she'd kill him outright, but instead she came to talk to him herself, and her demeanor was very odd. She asked him who he was and who he was working for... and then offered him the chance to stay with her. She said she believed he was her long-lost son. She didn't rush his decision though; he was allowed to leave if he wanted to.

It would be stupid to piss off a powerful vampire lord in the region, so he agreed to stay in the manor until he had a better plan. During the time they spent talking, it became clear that they did have some connection, and her wild story started looking more and more true. When faced with the offer of living in comfort for the rest of his life and being accepted into a family or rejecting that and returning to continue to fight for his life, Malice's choice was obvious. He turned over all the information he had on the humans to prove his loyalty to Rosalie.

She assured him that the humans would be taken care of, and reports later said they were all wiped out. Malice was allowed to freely roam the manor and his training in vampire noble lore began. Though he was given a personal servant, it's pretty obvious that no one really wants him here. Rosalie's other son (Oleander) is constantly trying to assert himself and the servants are only barely tolerant of his presence here. The only exception is Malice's tutor, who has grown pretty fond of him during the past eight months.

During this time, Rosalie has been meeting up with one of the other vampire lords in the region, discussing alliances and the like. They aren't worried about the humans at all, actually, and never were to begin with. One such vampire lord, Lotisse, took an interest in Malice and they've been spending a lot of time together.

Lotisse treats him like a person and not Rosalie's weird pet project, so Malice has sort of latched onto him. They're pretty good friends, but over the past year or so, Lotisse has been attempting to encourage Malice to choose his own future... which might not have anything to do with Rosalie at all.

So he left with Lotisse and all was well... until Lotisse revealed he was trapped in the manor and was to be studied further to determine what his Domain was - on Rosalie's orders. So Malice was subjected to near non-stop fighting daily in an attempt to force his Domain to manifest.

His Domain did manifest, and some time after it had, he was able to find an opportunity to escape when human rebels attacked Lotisse. Running into these rebels, he realized the leader was Cody's younger sister - and after a lot of arguing and her threatening murder, they finally decided to work together, for the time being, at least.

POWERS
Vampire abilities. All vampires have several innate abilities. They have greatly enhanced speed, strength, and durability when compared to humans, along with superior sight, hearing, and smell. While this is true of Malice as well, he's not nearly as strong as the majority of his kind; he relies heavily on speed instead of brute strength. They can also regenerate - even major cuts and wounds will heal within hours (at nighttime or out of sunlight), though vampires cannot regenerate lost body parts and they can still be killed. Vampires also can withstand cold temperatures fairly well. They also possess sharp fangs and their nails can be hardened into pseudo-claws.

Vampire weaknesses. The obvious one is their weakness to sunlight. All vampires suffer reduced strength, speed, and stamina in sunlight, with more extreme cases suffering burns when exposed for too long. Malice has a higher tolerance than most, but he still prefers to avoid being out in the sunlight. Vampires are very weak to fire as well - and all magic is strong against them, with fire and light being very dangerous for them. Heat in general is bad for vampires; they're far more sensitive to it and burn very easily, regardless of their tolerance for sunlight. Vampires also need to feed - if they don't, they risk entering bloodlust, where they'll go into a frenzy and lose control of themselves. They can consume animal blood as well as human, and even vampire blood in a pinch (although that tastes the worst for them).

Domain. All vampires possess a Domain - a special ability that varies from vampire to vampire. Some families share abilities, but this isn't always the case. These abilities can range from anything and often manifest early on in a vampire's life. Rosalie and Lotisse believed Malice had a powerful one and thus forced his to manifest - Malice's Domain is the ability to reflect damage he takes back onto the attacker. It can be physical or magical damage, but he needs to be in fairly close contact for it to work; it cannot be stopped by other Domains. (He also has the ability to suppress Domains, but this is not something anyone knows at this point. Maybe eventually he'll be able to learn how to use this power!)

Weapons. Malice is pretty damn good with any weapon he can pick up and experiment with, though he tends to default to knives. He greatly prefers to rely on his arm and nails, but sometimes you need more range and throwing knives are great for that. As long as a weapon doesn't require both hands to use, he can make good use of it if he has to. Malice is a quick study when it comes to weapons.

Arm. Malice's replacement right arm is a device that can be attached to a port just above his elbow; he often removes it if he doesn't need the claws. He refuses to use a more normal hand most of the time; this is partially because he's used to a weaker model that had weak motor control so he couldn't really use it as a hand to begin with, but he's just edgy. It functions just as a normal arm would, but it is far more durable and those claws are very sharp. Malice can also detach his arm to extend its reach (it's connected by a chain with around a six foot length), though he loses all fine control that way. He does have a replacement arm with a proper hand he can swap his clawed one out for and will be using that in game.

INVENTORY
Replacement arm. The other magitek model of arm that comes with a proper hand and no claws. This one cannot be extended but does offer fine motor control thanks to the soulstone that powers it.

Throwing knives. Three small, hidden knives perfect for tossing at an enemy who is out of stabbing range.
